PUBLIC HEARING ON TAX RATE INCREASE THURSDAY

A public hearing on the proposed increase the property tax rate is scheduled during this week’s City Council meeting.  The council raised the proposed tax rate one cent during their meeting two weeks ago.  The increase would make the rate $0.517 per $100 valuation.  Property values in the city increased this year by an average of 6 percent.  With the rate increase, property owners inside the city would see a 7 percent increase in their taxes.

Also on Thursday’s agenda, the council will consider taking emergency action to adopt construction standards in regards to Senate Bill 1004.  That law goes into effect September 1st and will allow cellular phone providers to build in the city’s right of way.  The law give cities limited control over what may be added to light and power poles.  City staff is expected to present what regulations could be applied to the council Thursday.

  1. Great idea! I think we should get to vote on every single decision ever made by Brenham, City of.

  2. What about the $20,000.00 fee the city of brenham taxpayers are paying a consultant to find a new city manager? Did we vote on that as well?
