The Texas Challenge Academy is an accredited high school and volunteer alternative education program for 16 to 18-year-old youth that are not reaching their academic potential and are at risk of dropping out or have already dropped out. The program is operated by the Texas Military Department and is paid for with funds from the U.S. Department of Defense, the Texas Legislature, and private donations.

"It's an honor to have been asked to participate in this special occasion for such an important program," said Representative Schubert. "It was great to see how these students have realized their potential and I'm excited about what the future may hold for each of these young Texans as they become productive members of society."

The program allows students to earn high school credit, obtain their G.E.D. or in some cases, earn a high school degree as part of a 22–week residential phase and a 12–month post-residential phase.
