TWO ARRESTED ON DWI CHARGES
Brenham Police Department reports that on Sunday at 10:33 pm, Cpl. Steven Eilert was patrolling in the 100 block of U.S. Highway 290 West and saw a vehicle exit off the highway at FM 389 and strike a guardrail.
The vehicle then crossed the solid white line twice, so Eilert initiated a traffic stop.
The driver had the smell of alcohol emitting from his breath and refused to perform a field sobriety test.
However, as the driver exited his vehicle and walked toward Eilert’s car, he staggered and admitted he was “impaired.” His driving record indicated he had a previous conviction for driving while intoxicated.
Arrested was fifty-one year old Edward Joseph Leiker of Brenham, and he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, second offense.
Also on Sunday, 1:04 a.m. Cpl. Steven Eilert and Officer Ashely Burns responded to a rollover accident in the 2800 block of Gun and Rod Road.
Two male subjects were in the vehicle and said they were coming from a party. The driver of the vehicle consented to a field sobriety test, and displayed several signs of being intoxicated.
Charged with Driving While Intoxicated is fifty-seven year old Rodney Charles Jones of Houston.
