TWO SPEAK AT COUNTY TAX RATE PUBLIC HEARING

Two people spoke at the Monday evening public hearing on the County Tax rate.  The county commissioners are proposing dropping the tax rate 1 cent this year to $0.5171 per $100 valuation.  Even with the 1 cent lower tax rate, revenue from the tax is expected to increase due to higher property valuations.  Both people commenting opposed any increase in taxes.  Victor Murski said that the increase in property valuations couldn’t be justified and that people on fixed incomes can’t afford the tax increase.

County Commissioners will now vote on the proposed tax rate at their Tuesday, September 19th meeting.  That meeting will take place at 9:00 AM at the County Courthouse.
