WATERMELON FESTIVAL KICKS OFF IN HEMPSTEAD TONIGHT
The 27th Annual Hempstead Watermelon Festival kicks off Friday and continues throughout the day Saturday.
The Junior Barbeque Cook Off gets underway at 6:00. Tonight also features the carnival and a street dance with Abigale Taylor and the Risky Liver Band.
Saturday features a full day of activities kicking off with the Watermelon Parade at 9:00 a.m. The parade will be followed by the Queen’s crowning and opening ceremonies.
The day’s events include: Barbeque judging, a car show, watermelon eating & seed spitting contests, an auction, a quilt show and arts & crafts vendors.
The festival comes to an end Saturday night with a street dance from 8:30 to midnight with the Chris Brade Band.
