SHERIFF’S OFFICE SEEKS GRANT FOR FORENSIC EQUIPMENT

Washington County Commissioners approved seeking a grant from the Office of the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division for Forensic Equipment for the Sheriff’s Office. Evidence Technician Donna Gomez said that the county will be asking for $32,700 to purchase new equipment for the current forensic lab at the Sheriff’s office. She said the current equipment is 12 to 15 years old and lacks the filtering required to ensure the health of lab workers.
Commissioners also approved a license agreement with the Brazos Valley Council of Governments for training software for dispatchers. The software will be used for emergency medical dispatchers. Commissioner Joy Fuchs said that the county will be looking to add the law enforcement and fire dispatch training software when they become available.
Commissioners approved the renewal of the Contract for Rotation Log Towing of Abandoned, Impounded, Junked or Disable Vehicles. Commissioner Luther Hueske said there were no changes made to the contract from last year, but they will be looking at it again in February. He noted that Constable Ken Holle has been administrating the log and it has been working much smoother than previous years.
Commissioners also set the dates for their upcoming meetings. The Court will meet Tuesday, December 12th and 19th. They will also have a short meeting on Wednesday, December 27th to approve the county payroll. The requirement that they approve each payroll was added by the state legislature this year. Commissioners also set their meeting dates for 2018. They will continue to meet each Tuesday.
