ROBERTS: CITY NOT LIMITING PET CENTER VOLUNTEERS
Brenham city officials say they don’t plan limit volunteers at the pet adoption center.
Last week the city announced reduced hours over the next several weeks for staff training, and that volunteers would not be needed for that period of time.
The city also announced they would be developing a new volunteer program.
Outgoing City Manager Terry Roberts says he doesn’t believe the city is looking to limit its volunteers.
The city has contracted with a consulting firm to make recommendations about the center’s operations. Roberts says they want to look at their policies and procedures to have an effective volunteer program,
Roberts says consultant Tim Crum has been to Brenham for an evaluation, and is coming back in early January to deal with the volunteer program, policies and procedures.
The city is currently taking applications for a new animal services manager.
The city has been reviewing shelter and adoption operations after numerous complaints.
The center is currently open from 10 a.m.-to-2 p.m,. Wednesdays through Saturdays thru January 16th.
