ALL THREE BRENHAM CSI TEAMS ADVANCE TO NEXT COMPETITION

Brenham CSI—Challenging Scientific Investigations—is a Brenham ISD initiative that provides opportunities for 2nd-thru-6th grade students identified by the district as Gifted and Talented.

Students explore science and technology as they read, write, solve problems, conduct experiments and apply science to their daily lives. The CSI program is housed at Alton Elementary, and is taught by Jennifer Ebel and Kristi Felder.

Every year the 6th grade CSI students compete in First Lego League. This year’s theme was Hydrodynamics. Each of the three teams had to identify a problem with the way we find, use, transport, or dispose of water. Teams then designed an innovative solution, and shared the problem and solution with others. There were 4 judged components in the competition: Core Values, Project, Robot Design, and Robot Game.

The 2017 Central Texas First Lego League Qualifier event was held January 13th at Westwood High School in Austin.

Of the 27 competing teams, the top 8 advance to the Central Texas First Lego League Invitational.  All three Brenham teams advanced, and will be competing in Austin this February.

In addition to all three teams advancing, WaterWay Warriors placed 4th in the Robot Game, Water Hogs placed 5th in the Robot Game, and the Hot Tamales placed 7th. Team Water Hogs also received the Judges Award for demonstrating perseverance and overcoming significant obstacles this season.  Story and photos courtesy of Brenham ISD.
