ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DEPT. TO RECEIVE FUNDING FOR LAPTOP

The Washington County Environmental Health Department will soon have access to a heavy duty laptop for field work.

At today’s (Tuesday) meeting, County Environmental Department Supervisor Mark Marzahn requested a $4700 grant from the Brazos Valley Council of Governments Regional Solid Waste Management Grants Program.  The funding would be used to purchase a Dell Latitude Rugged Extreme, which would benefit his personnel in the field for local enforcement, namely in illegal dumping cases.

The motion passed in a 3-1 vote, with Commissioner Kirk Hanath opposing the measure.  Commissioner Joy Fuchs was absent from the meeting.  Hanath stated that the work Marzahn’s department would be doing should not require as big of an investment, saying similar departments use tablets for field work.  He also stressed the importance of weighing all options when it comes to purchasing technology.

The Chappell Hill Chamber of Commerce’s request to close multiple streets on the Fourth of July for Independence Day parade and activities was granted.

A subdivision variance request for a land division fronting FM 1371 in Precinct 2 was passed, as well as a Re-Plat of Sandy Creek Estates.
