BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL MEETING TO DISCUSS SUCCESSOR FOR WELDON WILLIAMS

Brenham’s City Council will meet tomorrow (Thursday) to consider a successor for the late Weldon Williams.

The council will meet in executive session to discuss the naming of a replacement for Williams, who died on June 27th.  They will also consider the position of At-Large Councilmember Charlie Pyle, who has been dealing with health issues ever since he suffered a heart attack in early March.

Prior to executive session, the council will look to officially terminate the Convention and Visitors Bureau Contract between the City of Brenham and the Washington County Chamber of Commerce.  The contract cancellation was announced in July, with Brenham City Manager James Fisher saying the city will take convention and tourism services in-house.

The city will also consider revising Brenham Municipal Airport’s standard T-Hangar lease agreement.  The Airport Advisory Board has been considering the changes since June, which would allow noncommercial assembly of hobby airplanes at the airport.  The city council will also look at ground-space lease agreements with Hat Creek Aviation LLC, for hangar space at the airport.

They will also hold public hearing to consider amending the code of ordinances to include definitions for “brewery”, “brewpub”, “distillery”, and “microdistillery or craft distillery.”  These definitions were discussed by the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission at last week’s meeting.

In other items, the council will look at appointing a new member to the Brenham Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, for an unexpired term ending on December 31.

The council will also hear a proposal for a tax rate of roughly 52 cents per $100 valuation, for the 2018 tax year.  They will also look at a noise variance request, and recognize several city officials for their service.

The Brenham City Council will meet tomorrow (Thursday) at 1 p.m., at City Hall.
