UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DOWN SLIGHTLY IN WASHINGTON CO.

  

The jobless rate in Washington County dropped slightly in July.

According to the Texas Workforce Commission, the county’s unemployment rate for July fell to 4.1 percent, down from June’s 4.3 percent.  At this point last year, the county’s jobless rate was 4.6 percent.

The county’s labor force in July was 14,787, with 609 jobless.  June’s workforce totaled 14,987, with 646 without work.

The state’s unemployment rate stayed at 4 percent in July, the same as June’s rate.  The US unemployment rate was 3.9 percent in July, down from 4 percent in June.

July’s jobless rates for nearby counties include:

  • Austin County—3.7 percent, down three-tenths from June.
  • Brazos County—3.2 percent, down two-tenths.
  • Burleson County—3.8 percent, down three-tenths.
  • Fayette County—2.9 percent, down two-tenths from last month.
  • Grimes County—4.6 percent, also down two-tenths.
  • Lee County—3.2 percent, down one-tenth.
  • Waller County—4.8 percent, also down one-tenth.
