BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO SWEAR IN WRIGHT, CALL SPECIAL ELECTION

Brenham’s City Council will meet Thursday to swear in new Ward-2 Councilman Albert Wright.
The city council announced at August 16th’s meeting that Wright would fill the seat previously held by the late Weldon Williams, who died in June. Wright is the Senior Pastor at the New Life Church of God in Brenham. Wright’s appointment will last until next May’s election.

The council will also look to call a special election for the at-large council position of Charlie Pyle. Pyle resigned from his position on the council at their last meeting, due to health issues and treatments stemming from his heart attack in March. The special election is slated to be held December 8th.
Councilmembers will also discuss their proposed tax rate of $0.5170 per $100, for the upcoming fiscal year beginning October 1st. The rate remains the same as last year, although it is expected to bring in more tax revenues because of higher property values in the city.
In addition, the council will look to authorize final payment to Site Work Contractors LLC, for emergency road and storm damage repairs to Burleson Street at Higgins Branch. Repairs were completed earlier this year, after the roadway suffered damage from Hurricane Harvey and the flooding of May 2016.
The council will also hold public hearing on the creation of several reinvestment zones from Stanpac USA / Brenham Bartons, Inc. and MIC Group LLC, for tax abatements.
The city will also act upon a one-year contract extension with DXI for bulk water and wastewater treatment chemicals, look at revisions to the city’s policies for Boards and Commissions, and execute an election services contract with Washington County for the December 8th election.
The council will then adjourn into executive session, to speak with the city attorney about a facility and land development matter. City Manager James Fisher says this item is separate from the land on Chappell Hill Street being discussed for a second fire station.
The city council will meet Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m., at Brenham City Hall.
