NEW COMMISSIONERS COURT MEMBERS DISCUSS WASHINGTON CO. FACILITY DEVELOPMENT

  

Washington County is potentially moving forward with several new county facilities.

Last week, Washington County Commissioners agreed to begin the first phase of a new Emergency Communications Center.  In addition, according to County Judge John Brieden, commissioners will be acting on a recommendation next week to negotiate with a contractor, for work on a new Road and Bridge facility.

County Judge-elect John Durrenburger said, for the communications facility, the county is simply in opening stages of tentative plans.

 

The county is currently operating out of the City of Brenham’s dispatch center on a five year lease that ends in September 2019.  The lease is able to be renewed annually for five years, but Brieden has said the city cannot guarantee the building would be available for use after that.  City Manager James Fisher said the city currently has no alternate plans for use of that building.

Durrenburger believes the county is making a good decision in moving on from the current Road and Bridge building.

 

Precinct 2 Commissioner-elect Candice Bullock said she would have to learn more about the communications facility and participate on the court, before she could make a decision.  She did say she was looking forward to the new Road and Bridge building.

 

Brieden has said the county is in a position where it can afford to pay cash for the construction of the Road and Bridge facility.  If plans move forward with the communications facility, he said the county will have to consider other financing options.
