BURLESON CO. COMMISSIONERS SEEK BILL TO MAKE COUNTY ATTORNEY LONE PROSECUTOR
Burleson County is looking to expand the role of County Attorney Susan Deski.
Burleson County Commissioners passed a resolution last week supporting a bill that would allow Deski to take on felony prosecutions.
Currently, Washington County District Attorney Julie Renken handles felony cases, serving both Washington and Burleson Counties. This bill would give Deski both county and district attorney responsibilities.
Burleson County Judge Mike Sutherland said this system would better serve the county, due to an increased case load in past years. He said this move would help prevent cases backing up in Burleson County’s felony criminal docket, since it would not share a prosecutor with Washington County.
The bill will be passed on to State Representative Ben Leman (R-Anderson) and State Senator Lois Kolkhorst (R-Brenham) for review.
