College Station police have arrested 24-year-old Luis Leonardo Solis, who has been charged with the murder of 30-year-old Osiel Benitez-Herrera. A motive has not been revealed.

Police were called out late Tuesday night around 11:45 p.m. to a mobile home park in the 3000 block of Texas Avenue. Solis had called authorities claiming he found his roommate dead inside their home after returning home from shopping.

Authorities questioned Solis early in the investigation, finding inconsistencies with his story and evidence linking him to the crime. During the investigation, Solis was booked into the Brazos County Jail on a Possession of a Controlled Substance charge, after police found drug paraphernalia in a backpack discarded near the scene of the crime.

While Solis was in jail on the drug charge, police announced Saturday that he was now being charged with the murder of Benitez-Herrera.

According to family members of Benitez-Herrera, he had said in the past he feared Solis, sometimes sleeping in a car to avoid him. They said the two had only lived together for four months.

Solis remains in jail on $325,000 bond. His record over the last five years includes a series of criminal offenses, with four drug-related charges, one charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, burglary of a building, criminal mischief, and a warrant for failure to appear.
