ASTROS’ ALVAREZ UNANIMOUS ‘ROOKIE OF THE YEAR’

Astros’ slugger Yordan Alvarez has become the franchise's third Rookie of the Year winner and second since the club moved to the American League.

Alvarez was a unanimous selection of the award's 30 voters.  Blue Jays second baseman  Cavan Biggio, the son of Astros’ Hall of Famer Craig Biggio, was fifth.

Alvarez, who began this past season with Triple-A Round Rock, hit .313, with 27 home runs and 78 runs batted in in just 87 games in the big leagues.

Carlos Correa (2015) and Jeff Bagwell (1991) were Houston’s previous Rookie of the Year winners.

The Mets’ Pete Alonzo, who slugged 53 home runs and drove in 120 runs, was the runaway National League winner.
