The heart of Matthew Spahn, who as an organ donor saved five lives with seven of his organs, now beats again inside Kristi Richard Russ, whose life was saved by the transplant.

Spahn, a state-qualifying cross country runner at Brenham High School, suffered serious injuries after being struck by a car while walking along Gun and Rod Road in Brenham on October 7, 2018.  He fought furiously for his life, but died ten days later at the age of 21.

Matthew’s father, Jordan Spahn, along with Jordan’s wife, Summer Mossbarger, met Monday with Russ, where they pressed a stethoscope to Russ’ chest and heard Matthew’s heart beat once again.

As today (Friday) is National Organ Donor Day, several media outlets are sharing Spahn’s story, including Daily Mail, who posted their story on Spahn this morning.  In addition, Spahn’s story will air tonight on ABC World News Tonight at 5:30 p.m., and on KHOU 11 at 6 p.m.
