BRENHAM HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, TEACHERS WHO VISITED SPAIN BACK IN BRENHAM, CURRENTLY SELF-QUARANTINING

A group of Brenham High School students and teachers visiting Spain for spring break has returned to Brenham, just before the country went under partial lockdown in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

KWHI has learned that the group of students and teachers came home Sunday, and are self-quarantining for 14 days.

Today (Monday), Spain’s Interior Minister, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, announced the country’s land borders would be closed.  According to Spain’s Health Ministry, the country’s recorded cases of the virus now exceed 9,100, with approximately 309 deaths.

According to Brenham ISD Board Vice President Melvin Ehlert, the trip was not sponsored or sanctioned by Brenham ISD, and required no approval from the school district.

Thousands of Americans scrambled to get back from Europe over the weekend, following President Donald Trump’s 30 day travel ban.  Citizens were allowed to return home from Europe, but only after unspecified screening was completed.

  1. How do we know these people are staying quarantined for the entire 14 days…….that means NO going out of the residence for any reason other than by ambulance to the hospital……….worried Senior with disabled spouse!!!!

  2. I agree, when I read this I was horrified. Who is monitoring this situation. The school now says it is not involved. So just random students just got together with teachers and said, hey lets go to Spain. I can’t imagine that a bunch of students would want to spend spring break with teachers unless required by the school for a school sanctioned trip. Also, when the students came back home to self quarantine, are their family members that they live with (that didnt go to Spain) still going to work or is the entire families self quarantined? Again, who is checking on this? Same with the teachers, are their spouses or others quarantined also? Wow, unbelievable.

  3. Were these people tested before released to go home? Are they being monitored? Spain has one of the highest number of cases of the virus.

    1. How do we know we haven’t come in contact with family that may have been exposed???
