TEXAS RANKS IN BOTTOM QUARTER OF 2020 CENSUS RESPONSES
The state of Texas is ranked in the bottom quarter of self-responses for the 2020 US Census.
Texas is ranked 41st out of 52 entities (including District of Columbia and Puerto Rico) in self-response rate at 56.1 percent.
The state’s self-response rate is only 8.3 percent lower than the final self-response percentage from the 2010 Census, 64.4 percent, with almost two months left to respond.
According to 2020census.gov, Washington County ranks 38th in the state of Texas for responses. In the 2010 Census, Washington County’s response was 61.7 percent.
Washington County ranks first in response rate in all surrounding counties, with a 55.7 percent self-response rate. The rates for our area are:
Brazos County: 53.3 percent,
Austin County: 52.4 percent,
Lee County: 49.9 percent,
Fayette County: 49.1 percent,
Waller County: 47.4 percent,
Grimes County: 44.5 percent,
Burleson County: 41.5 percent.
In comparison, Texas' internet self-response rate is 45.8 percent, and national self-response is 61.4 percent, with 49.1 percent coming from internet self-responses.
According to the 2020 Census Self-Response Rankings, Brenham has the highest self-response rate in the surrounding area cities, and 257th when response rate is compared to all Texas cities, with a 60.9 percent self-response rate. In 2010, Brenham finished with a 68.1 percent self-response total. Burton ranks 879th in the State, with a 30.8% rate of response, with responses almost doubling since Census Day. Burton’s 2010 self-response total finished at 59.4 percent.
The 2020 Census deadline for self-response is set for August 14th. Households may respond to the Census online, by phone, or by mail. To fill out the Census online, go to https://my2020census.gov/.
