ROUND TOP MAKING ADJUSTMENTS FOR ANNUAL FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION

The longest-running Fourth of July celebration west of the Mississippi River is still being planned in Round Top, but changes will be made to keep in line with new COVID-19 health regulations.

The 170th celebration will kick off at 10 a.m. with the firing of the town’s cannon, followed by the parade at 10:30 a.m.  The parade will accommodate approximately 50 entries, along with vehicles from the Round Top-Warrenton Volunteer Fire Department.

The parade route has been lengthened to allow for more distance between spectators.  An additional loop along Gretchen’s Way is being added at the end of the parade as it travels northward on Highway 237 leaving Round Top.

Parade participants will not be allowed to throw or hand out candy, trinkets, printed materials, or any other items along the route.  Parade spectators who park along the parade route are asked to remain in or near their vehicles, and all spectators are asked to practice social distancing.

After the parade, Round Top Rifle Association members will serve barbecue chicken and smoked sausage at the Round Top Rifle Hall at 11:30 a.m., with music in the afternoon.  Meals will be packaged and distributed in to-go containers, while an outdoor bar will serve beverages.  Outside tables will be available, and sanitation stations will be available on the grounds.

To learn more about the celebration, or to sign up for the parade, go online to https://roundtoprifle.com.  KTEX-106’s Cactus Ken Murray will be broadcasting live in Round Top the morning of the celebration from the friendly country cruiser.
