BURTON CITY COUNCIL TO CONSIDER RESIGNATION OF TWO COUNCILMEMBERS

Two members of the Burton City Council are expected to resign at the council’s meeting Tuesday.

An item on the agenda calls for the council’s consideration of the resignation of Jerry Martin and Buck Oliphant from the council.

According to Mayor David Zajicek, Martin is resigning for personal reasons, while Oliphant is moving from the area.

Martin has served on the council since May of 2018, while Oliphant joined the council this May.

Following their resignation, the council will consider appointing Paul McLaughlin to fill the position held by Martin.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the council will consider:

  • Going out for bids for mowing, edging, and other maintenance of city properties.
  • Action on a consolidated building codes ordinance.
  • An amendment to the city’s animal control ordinance.
  • Action on a proposed structure from the Burton Bridge Ministry.
  • An ordinance variance regarding minimum square footage for a home at 519 Nueces Street.

The council will meet Tuesday afternoon at 5:30 p.m.  Due to lack of space at Burton City Hall, the meeting will only be open to the public through conference call.  The call-in information for the meeting is posted below.
