WORKSHOP THURSDAY TO DISCUSS REDESIGN OF 290/36 INTERCHANGE

Local government officials will meet today (Thursday) to potentially decide upon their favorite of the proposed concepts for the redesign of the Highway 290 cloverleaf interchange with Highway 36.

The Brenham City Council will meet with Washington County Commissioners in a joint workshop this morning to discuss TxDOT’s planned improvements to the interchange.

During the meeting, the council and commissioners will review each of the five concepts presented by TxDOT and work together to prepare a resolution or letter of support for one of the plans.

Following the workshop, the council will consider passing that resolution or letter at its regular meeting this afternoon.  The council’s decision would then be forwarded to TxDOT for their consideration.

A virtual public hearing hosted by TxDOT is open through tomorrow (Friday), giving the public the chance to watch a video outlining each of the five concepts and provide comments on them.  Comments can be emailed to Steve.Higgins@txdot.gov, or by using the comment form on the TxDOT website.

Also at the council’s regular meeting, councilmembers will consider appointing presiding and associate municipal court judges, both for a two-year term ending December 31, 2022.  They will also potentially act upon the judges’ compensation.

In January, the council appointed local attorney John D. Winkelmann as the presiding judge for a term ending December 31st, following the removal of previous judge Bill Kendall in October 2019.  In December 2019, the city appointed Patricia Gruner, the presiding municipal judge in Navasota, as an associate municipal judge.

The workshop will be held this morning at 10 a.m. at the ballroom of The Barnhill Center, while the council’s regular meeting will be held at 1 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.
