SEVERAL CONTESTED RACES ON MAY BALLOT FOR CITY, SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS

The deadline to file for the spring municipal and school board elections passed on Friday, and several races on the ballot will be contested.

On the Brenham City Council, three of the four positions up for election will have multiple candidates.  The Ward One seat of incumbent Keith Herring is being challenged by Shannan Canales, while Allan Colvin is challenging incumbent Clint Kolby for At-Large Position Five.  Leah Cook and Albert Buchanan will face off for the At-Large Position Six seat of Susan Cantey, who is not seeking re-election.  Atwood Kenjura is uncontested for the Ward Three position of Andrew Ebel, who is also not running for another term.

Two of the three Brenham School Board positions up for election will be contested.  Trustee Tommie Sullivan will look to defend his seat against Michelle Walbeck, while Jared Krenek and Christine Giese will vie for the position of trustee and Board Vice President Melvin Ehlert. Trustee and Board President Natalie Lange does not have an opponent.

Four candidates have filed for the two at-large trustee positions up for election on the Burton School Board, those being the seats of incumbent David Warner, Sr. and Tracey Cox, who resigned in November.  Warner, Brian Hinze, Boris Jumper, Sr., and Sue Pinkerton have all filed for election.

As of Friday morning, only the incumbents – Mayor David Zajicek and councilmembers Nathan Kalkhake, Paul McLaughlin and Macey Tidwell – had filed for election to the Burton City Council.

For the Blinn Board of Trustees, incumbents Reverend Randy Wells and Rebecca Ehlert were the only candidates to file for election.

Tuesday is the final day to declare for the election as a write-in candidate.  Election Day is Saturday, May 1st.
