ALCOHOL-TO-GO BILL PASSES TEXAS SENATE, HEADS TO GOV. ABBOTT’S DESK

A bill that would allow Texans to purchase alcohol to-go from restaurants on a permanent basis may soon become law.

The Texas Senate on Wednesday passed House Bill 1024, which now heads to the desk of Governor Greg Abbott for signature.  The bill cleared on a 30-1 Senate vote after passing in the House 144-1 last month.

In March 2020, Abbott signed a waiver to allow restaurants to deliver beer, wine and mixed drinks with food orders while dining in was disallowed.  In June, an extended waiver allowed restaurants and bars with a Mixed Beverage Permit to sell mixed drinks to-go and for delivery.

If signed, the bill would become law effective September 1st.
