MAN SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS FOR 2018 LOCAL SHOOTING

A College Station man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to a 2018 shooting in Washington County.

22-year-old Kendrick Lekeith Jackson of College Station was sentenced in 21st Judicial District Court, Thursday.

Jackson pleaded guilty to two charges of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon; one Causing Serious Bodily Injury to a Family Member.

He was arrested by Washington County Sheriff’s deputies back on January 13th, after shots were fired at a home on FM 50.  A 19-year-old woman was hospitalized following the shooting.  Jackson surrendered to authorities several days later.

Also in Thursday’s District Court:

27-year-old Justin Wayne Brooks of Washington was placed on five years’ probation for Injury to Child – a Third degree Felony.  Brooks was also fined $500, ordered to pay a $100 child abuse fee and perform 75 hours of Community Service.

And, 26-year-old Rikki Simone Hurt of Austin, placed on four years’ probation for Evading Arrest/Detention with a Vehicle – a Third Degree Felony.  Hurt was also fined $500 and ordered to perform 200 hours of Community Service.

  1. Finally, what seems like a fair and appropriate term of incarceration for a convicted felon. Let’s hope that he serves the full amount, and is not paroled after 6 years or so. As to the other two defendants, I think they may have gotten off on the light side; however, I don’t know the full story and can only base my judgment on what is reported. Again, if a complaint is made, and law enforcement arrests and detains the individual, a district attorney files charges based on what the investigation reveals, and the individual is brought to trial and convicted, and the judge or jury levies punishment, then the cycle operates as it should. If any one of those links is compromised, then the entire strength of the process is weakened.
