CITY OF BRENHAM INTRODUCES NEW LIBRARIAN, COMMUNITY RESOURCE OFFICER

Idalia Avezuela introduces herself as Brenham's new librarian at Thursday's Brenham City Council meeting.

The City of Brenham has several new faces.

At Thursday’s Brenham City Council meeting, Idalia Avezuela was introduced as the city’s new librarian.  Avezuela previously served as the Rosenberg librarian and as the library manager for the Harris County Public Library.

Avezuela called this an incredible honor and said she is eager to join the Brenham community.

Avezuela has a master’s degree in library science from the University of North Texas and a bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Puerto Rico.  She was the chair of programming in the Galveston Reads program, and has a family farm in the Round Top area where they educate the public on the importance of healthy food decisions.  She also volunteers on the Tomball Farmers Market Board of Directors, in addition to several other community events and boards.

Previous librarian Andria Heiges resigned in the summer to move to Lampasas with her family.  City officials thanked Tammy Murphy for serving as head librarian in the interim.

A familiar face being promoted to a new role is Brenham Police Corporal Sierra Randle, who is the department’s new Community Resource Officer (CRO).  Captain Dant Lange, who introduced Cpl. Randle as the CRO, said the position will work closely with the public in community outreach.

Cpl. Randle has been with the police department for around seven years, working in the criminal investigation division, on the Crime Reduction Unit and as a School Resource Officer.  She said she looks forward to new adventures in her new position.

Also recognized on Thursday was Alyssa Faykus, who has joined the city as an administrative assistant to City Secretary Jeana Bellinger.  Faykus, a graduate of Brenham High School and Stephen F. Austin State University, had previously worked as a reporter for the Brenham Banner-Press since 2019.
