BURTON CITY COUNCIL TO VOTE ON APPOINTMENT OF MAYOR, HIRING OF CITY SECRETARY
The Burton City Council will potentially appoint a new mayor at its meeting Wednesday, rescheduled from March 9th.
Businessman and Burton beautification committee member Pete Horn is expected to formally be appointed as mayor, replacing David Zajicek, who stepped down from office on March 8th.
The council will also consider officially hiring Angela Harrington to serve again as city secretary. Harrington held the position before the hiring of Adrian Cepeda on January 12, 2021.
In other business, the council will discuss whether to change operating hours at Burton City Hall. The proposed adjustment would close city hall on Monday, meaning it would change to a schedule of Tuesday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Councilmembers will also take up action on a certification of unopposed candidates and the cancellation of the May 7th election.
Also on Wednesday’s agenda, the council will consider:
- Conveying undeveloped property at the end of East Branch Street and the road formerly known as South Colorado Street to American Kinetics, Inc. (AMKIN).
- The hiring of a part-time clerical assistant.
- A mobile home variance for parcel #R27343 located on South Brazos Street.

The council will meet Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Burton City Hall.
