KRISTYNIK’S GRAND SLAM POWERS BUCCANEERS SOFTBALL TO REGION TWIN BILL SPLIT WITH ANGELINA

Kristynik's grand slam powers Buccaneers to region twin bill split with Angelina

The Buccaneers return to play April 21 at Alvin Community College

The Blinn College softball team split a home doubleheader against Region XIV South foe Angelina College on Wednesday at Hohlt Park in Brenham.
A crooked number in the bottom of the fifth inning fueled the Buccaneers’ 7-4 victory in game two before the Roadrunners earned a 15-5 victory (five innings) in the finale.
“It was good to get the first game; we competed for seven innings,” Blinn head coach Rick Church said.
Offensively, Blinn’s day was highlighted by a tiebreaking grand slam from Emily Kristynik in game one, putting the Bucs ahead 7-3.

Trailing 3-2 to begin the inning, Blinn loaded the bases before Kailey Eldridge scored on an error while Keely Castillo reached first to keep the bases full. One out later, Kristynik sent a 2-2 pitch over the wall in left-center to give her team the lead for good. The homer was Kristynik’s team-leading eighth longball of the season.
“I was just looking to make solid contact and put the ball in the outfield to score a runner or two,” Kristynik said. “The pitcher threw me an outside pitch that came in a little slower, so I let the pitch come in a little deeper and just took it to center field.”
Castillo tied the game in the bottom of the third with a two-run double which scored Chandler Talbot and Kayla Wallace.
Chloee Mason earned the win for the Bucs behind a complete-game effort. She allowed three earned runs on 11 hits and walked one.

Talbot and Wallace scored twice, and Castillo, Kristynik and Eldridge also scored for Blinn.
In game two, Mason was again in the circle for the Bucs and took the loss after two innings of work. Eldridge came on in relief to finish the game.
Blinn jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning with the help of a Kristynik RBI groundout and a two-run single from Kenley Strange. Angelina answered with eight runs in the top of the second, added four in the third. and three more in the fifth.
The Bucs got an RBI single from Acie Prince and a Kristynik sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth to close out the scoring.
“In game two, we took advantage of some Angelina miscues and had some key hits in the first inning to jump out to a three-run lead, but then the wheels fell off,” Church said.
Blinn is now 14-27 overall with a 7-9 region mark.
The Bucs will have a week off before returning to play. Blinn travels to face Alvin Community College in a region twin bill at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 21 in Alvin, Texas.
