DOJ TO REVIEW RESPONSE TO UVALDE SCHOOL SHOOTING
The U.S. Department of Justice announced Sunday it will review the police response to the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde.

Department spokesman Anthony Coley said the goal of the review, which was requested by Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin, is to “provide an independent account of law enforcement actions and responses that day, and to identify lessons learned and best practices to help first responders prepare for and respond to active shooter events.”
Nineteen children and two teachers were killed in the shooting on May 24th. Law enforcement officials have been criticized for their response to the shooting and the release of conflicting information on how the incident occurred.
Governor Greg Abbott on Friday said he was “misled” about the nature of the initial response by officers, and demanded investigations into what happened.
Coley said the review will be conducted with the Department’s Office of Community Oriented Policing. He said the assessment will be “fair, transparent, and independent.”
Coley said the Department will publish a report with its findings at the conclusion of its review, although no timeline was given as to when the review would be completed.
