BURTON CITY COUNCIL TO LOOK AT APPOINTING RETURNING MEMBER
A former Burton City Councilmember will potentially return to the council when it meets Tuesday.
An item on the agenda calls for the appointment of Jeff Eckhardt to Position 3 on the council. Eckhardt was first elected in May 2016 and served until May 2020, when he opted to not seek re-election.
Eckhardt’s position was filled by Jason Schoenvogel, who also chose not to run again when his term expired on May 7th.
In other discussion, the council will consider a new contract with Jason Jaster for maintenance on city properties.
Several items pertaining to the city’s bank accounts will be addressed. Councilmembers will act on a transfer by check of all Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (LEOSE) training money in the education fund to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and closing the education fund bank account.
They will also decide on transferring the remaining fund balance in the bank accounts for the municipal court and police and road repair funds to the general fund and closing the old accounts. In addition, they will vote on transferring the balance in the technology and security funds to the savings account and closing those accounts.
Other action items on Tuesday include:
- Potential approval of an ordinance correcting a previous ordinance which authorized and directed the mayor to abandon and convey a portion of Pecan Street adjacent to property owned by Dennis Gilpatrick.
- Accepting the audits of the seizure funds as required by the Code of Criminal Procedure for Fiscal Years 2020-21 and 2021-22.
The council will meet Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Burton City Hall.
