WASHINGTON CO. FAIR JUNIOR LIVESTOCK AUCTION HITS $1 MILLION IN SALES

  

The Junior Livestock Auction at the 154th Washington County Fair eclipsed the $1 million mark for the first time ever.

Unofficial totals for the 260 lots in Friday’s sale reached $1,150,150.  That number surpasses the previous record set at the 2021 auction of $927,900.

Grand and Reserve Champions sold for a combined $115,500, including $66,750 for Grand Champions and $48,750 for Reserve Champions.  2021’s Grand and Reserve Champions tallied $102,250, made up of $60,250 for Grand Champions and $42,000 for Reserve Champions.

Two Grand Champion records and one Reserve Champion record fell, those for Grand Champion Barrow, Grand Champion Rabbits and Reserve Champion Lamb.  One lot not among the Grands and Reserves shattered the record belonging to 2016’s Grand Champion Steer.

The Grand Champion Barrow of Gretchen Merten sold for $13,500 to J&J Packing.  Cash Vogler’s Grand Champion Rabbits sold for $9,000 to PlanNorth Architectural Co., Collier Construction, Ballard & Fleetwood, Brannon Industrial Group, Bank of Brenham, J&J Packing and Spit-N-Shine – Heidi Barrera.  The Reserve Champion Lamb of Kendal Gurka went for $13,000 to Metal & More, J&J Packing, Brenham Dodge, Pooltex American Inc., David and Wanda Hermann, Wellmann Insurance Agency, Stegent-Thielemann Plumbing, Thielemann Construction Co., Hermann Electric LLC, Hermann Alarms, Legacy Texas Realty, Legacy Waste Services, and HDZ Builders – Adam and Lisa Hernandez.

Meanwhile, the Steer of Chet Fritsch sold for $35,500 to a long list of buyers: Four County Livestock Auction, Navasota Livestock, Carmine Feed & Fertilizer Inc., Mid-Tex Livestock, Seguin Livestock, Bar G Feedyard, Happy Bank – John Hadley, Zoetis Animal Health – Gary Fritsch, Flatonia Livestock Commission, JCM Trucking, Fritsch Cattle Co., Brazos Valley Livestock – Scott Scarmardo, Fayetteville Propane, Branded H Roofing LLC – Robbie Hollis, Ricky Kieke, Pride Feeders, Hansford County Feeders, CRI Feeders, Opplinger Companies, Douglas and Sandra Borchardt, Kieke Egg Farm, Batter’s Box, Thrivent Five Star Financial Group, Washington County Fair Supporters, Cattleman’s Brenham Livestock Auction, Bulls Eye Products & Concrete, Boeker Ag Service, Aspen Midstream, KKB, Carmine State Bank, Burton Meat Processing, and Texas Farm Credit Services.

The Grand Champion Steer of McKenzie Tiemann sold for $12,000 to Aspen Midstream, Somerville Farm & Ranch Inc., Philips Veterinary Hospital, Capital Farm Credit, Germania Insurance Company, Wellmann Insurance Agency, Bulls Eye Products & Concrete, Citizens State Bank, DLS Interiors, J&J Packing, LaRoche GM Dealerships, Brenham Iron Works, Brenham Veterinary Hospital, Kieke Egg Farm, and Washington County Fair Supporters.  Emily Redman’s Grand Champion Carcass Hog sold for $7,500 to J&J Packing, Washington County Tractor Inc., and Brenham National Bank – Tee Dippel.  Conner Seely’s Grand Champion Lamb sold for $7,000 to Aspen Midstream, Capital Farm Credit, Philips Veterinary Hospital, Hodde Real Estate, Pooltex American Inc., Aaron Flencher, Appel Ford & Hyundai of Brenham, J&J Packing, and Bubba & Angie Fritsch.  The Grand Champion Broilers of Reese Baade also sold for $7,000 to J&J Packing.  Shelby Prazak’s Grand Champion Goat sold for $6,500 to Brent Nedbalek Triton Air LLC.  The Grand Champion Turkey of Colt Niemeyer went to EB Landworks for $4,250.

For Reserve Champions, the Steer of Sterling Scheffer sold to Bulls Eye Products & Concrete for $8,500.  Lorelei Cessna’s Reserve Champion Barrow sold for $7,500 to J&J Packing.  The Reserve Champion Broilers of Emma Marth sold for $7,000 to Aspen Midstream, Philips Veterinary Hospital, Wellmann Insurance Agency, Appel Ford & Hyundai of Brenham, Citizens State Bank, Bulls Eye Products & Concrete, Washington Animal Clinic PLLC, Bank of Brenham, DLS Interiors – Dorsey Shedd, KTEX/KWHI, and Brenham Veterinary Hospital.  Kyle Patranella’s Reserve Champion Carcass Hog sold for $5,500 to Southwest Resources Inc. – Doug and Keith Sanders.  Mason Wehmeyer’s Reserve Champion Goat sold to Washington County Tractor Inc. for $4,500.  The Reserve Champion Turkey of Meg Rodriquez sold to Philips Veterinary Hospital for $3,750.  The Reserve Champion Rabbits of Cohen Tompkins sold for $3,500 to QuestSpecialty Inc., Bank of Brenham, and Brannon Industrial Group.

The fair wraps up today (Saturday) with the livestock judging contest at 8 a.m., little wrangler hay hauling at 9 a.m. and youth country creations auction at 10 a.m.  Livestock judging awards will be presented at 1 p.m.  Also today are the commercial steer sale at 1 p.m. and the colt and commercial heifer sale at 2 p.m., all in the Expo sales facility.

The Heart of America Carnival opens at 1 p.m.  Other fair activities like the kid’s petting zoo, county store and country creations exhibits, and antique farm equipment displays will be open throughout the day.  The youth hay hauling and greased pig contest start at 6 p.m., followed by the CPRA Rodeo with calf scramble and wild steer saddling at 7:30 p.m.

The musical entertainment tonight is Gary Durrenberger from 5 to 9 p.m. in the food court, followed by performances at the entertainment pavilion of Drew Parker at 8 p.m. and Roots & Boots – Aaron Tippin, Collin Raye and Sammy Kershaw – at 10 p.m.

  1. It was ridiculous hot in the fair facility. Since the fair rents the fairgrounds or now called the expo center ( signs still says fairgrounds after a year). The county need to apologize for the inconvenience or give the Washington county fair a break on the rent. I was a big supporter in the commercial heifer sale and I was about to leave
