SENATE DISTRICT 18 CANDIDATE PROFILE: JOSH TUTT

As early voting progresses, KWHI is watching the races on the ballot for Washington County voters this fall.
Today, we cover Texas Senate District 18 and the challenger in that race, Democrat Josh Tutt of Burleson County. Tutt works in the Information Technology industry and owns a vineyard with his husband, Rick. He is running against Republican incumbent Lois Kolkhorst.
Tutt says affordable healthcare access is one of his highest priorities, and that includes expanding Medicaid.
Upgrades to rural infrastructure like modernizing the electric grid, increasing internet capabilities, protecting groundwater resources and expanding cell signal coverage are critical issues for Tutt, as are increasing funding for schools, preserving the environment and protecting voting rights. He also believes the permitless carry of firearms is harmful, and that education and a baseline of training are necessary ingredients for responsible gun ownership.
Tutt says Texas is getting bigger, and the state needs to make sure it can handle it.
As a first-time candidate, Tutt realizes voters may be apprehensive, but he says he is very much a part of this community that he is trying to make better.
Early voting continues through Friday, November 4th. Election Day is Tuesday, November 8th.
