A longtime dentist in Brenham is looking to join the Brenham City Council.

Dr. Paul LaRoche III is a candidate for the special Ward 3 election, which was prompted after current councilmember Atwood Kenjura’s announcement that he would run for mayor of Brenham.  Dr. LaRoche was a dentist for over 38 years before selling his practice in 2018 and retiring.

Dr. LaRoche’s entire life in Brenham – he moved to Brenham in the fifth grade – has been in Ward 3.  He says he wants to aid in the city growing responsibly and in a way that allows it to hold on to what makes it special.

Dr. LaRoche is a graduate of Brenham High School, Texas A&M University and the University of Texas dental branch in Houston.

Dr. LaRoche has been involved with numerous community organizations, including the boards and councils of Brenham Wholesale Grocery, St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and Christian Day School, Baylor Scott & White Foundation and the Boy Scouts of America.  He currently serves as a board member for Hospice Brazos Valley, Little League coach and Washington County elections clerk.  He says through his experience with these groups, he knows how to work with others to accomplish tasks and projects.

Maintaining collaboration with the Brenham school system and other local government entities is crucial to Dr. LaRoche in order for the city to remain successful.

Thus far, Dr. LaRoche does not have an opponent in the Ward 3 election.  The only contested race will be for mayor, between Kenjura and Keith Hofmann.

Filing for the special election ends on March 6th
