FORMER CUBETTE COACH CRUTCHFIELD PART OF LSU NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM

Chante' Crutchfield

A former head coach of the Brenham Cubette Basketball Program can now call herself a National Champion.

Chante' Crutchfield is in her second year with the LSU Lady Tigers as the Assistant Director for Women's Basketball Operations/Recruiting. She is also in charge of preparing the game film and scouting.

During her two years at Brenham, Crutchfield guided the Cubettes to a record of 55-15, the program's first District Championship in nine years, and back-to-back district titles for the first time in 12 seasons.

Those teams produced two District MVPs, one Offensive MVP, two defensive MVPs, one Newcomer of the Year, one Most Improved Player, 14 All-District selections, nine Academic All-District honorees, four All-Brazos Valley, three All-State and three All-Region picks, and Crutchfield also took home District Coach of the Year honors.

Crutchfield remembers her time in Brenham very fondly.

Throughout her coaching career, Crutchfield has recruited and guided many successful women's basketball players, including Teaira McCowan. After graduating at Brenham High School, she went on to play in college basketball for Mississippi State, and currently plays in the WNBA for the Dallas Wings.

Crutchfield told a story about running into McCowan at the National Championships the year that she got drafted into the WNBA. McCowan admitted to being nervous, and Crutchfield gave her one last pep talk.

LSU finished this past season with a 34-2 record. They beat Iowa 102-85 to win the National Championship in Dallas.

The full interview with Coach Crutchfield can be heard on tonight's (Monday's) edition of the Brenham Sportsline at 5:35pm on KWHI 1280AM, 101.7FM, and KWHI.com.
