NAVASOTA POLICE MAKE ARREST AFTER HALF-MILE FOOT PURSUIT
Navasota police on Monday announced an arrest made last week after a lengthy foot pursuit.
50-year-old Cedrick Bass of Porter faces multiple charges after being arrested on August 2nd.
Around 10:20 a.m. that morning, a DPS trooper pulled Bass over in a parking lot near the corner of Highway 6 and Highway 90. The trooper called for assistance after the driver fled on foot into the pasture/woods southeast of the stop.
Several Navasota police officers arrived and set up a perimeter to position themselves between the suspect and businesses, due to him possessing a bag and reaching for an unknown item. School resource officers contacted Navasota High School as a precaution, because students were practicing outside.
The suspect jumped over several barbed wire fences and ran towards the east side of the Lonesome Dove subdivision, then back towards Highway 90. Eventually, he ran through a pasture towards Thane Road, where a citizen assisted the pursuing officer. The suspect was finally taken into custody, ending the half-mile foot pursuit.
Officers spent the next several hours recovering evidence that had been thrown by the suspect during the chase.
Bass is charged with Evading on Foot, Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 1 (Greater than 400 Grams) and Tampering with Evidence.
