Although he has gone on to a successful NFL career, Denver Broncos star Courtland Sutton has never forgotten where he came from. This past Friday, Sutton got the chance to give back to the community with a special presentation at the Boys and Girls Club of Washington County.

In May, Sutton reached out to the Boys and Girls Club requesting how he and his sponsor, Nike, could make a donation.   His desire was to provide clothes and accessories for the local youth, who are members of the organization.

Within a few weeks, boxes began to arrive from Nike with gear and apparel, as promised.  The Club made the decision to distribute the items on the first Friday that they were open for the School Year 2026-27 after-school program, which was this past Friday.

During their Opening Assembly, 111 kids from the program sat in the bleachers waiting for the surprise announcement that they were told was coming earlier in the week.

Executive Director, Shawn Koonce, talked about the privilege and responsibility of being a Club kid and how the choices you make today will impact the future life they desire for themselves.

He was followed by Fellowship of Christian Athletes Representative and Sutton's friend, Jacob Deramus, who shared a brief talk about striving to be all God created you to be.

Then, Deramus, proceeded to introduce Sutton, who appeared via a pre-recorded video, which he made while in the midst of NFL training camp.

After the video, every Club member received a bag and either apparel or a football from Nike.  Koonce said the excitement in the room was through the roof as every Club member felt seen, valued, and full of promise.

The Boys and Girls Club have also announced that they will be gifting the members from their Burton campus the same bags and swag this coming Friday.

Koonce added, "We love that a Brenham native has given back to help kids who are playing on the same courts, learning in the same rooms, and making friends like he and Jacob did many years ago.  He is an inspiration on the field and off and we are grateful to Courtland and Jacob as Club alumni for making the world a better place for others."
