AUGUST SALES TAX REBATE UP FOR BRENHAM & WASHINGTON CO., DOWN FOR BURTON

  

Sales and tax distributions were up in August for Washington County and the City of Brenham, but the City of Burton saw a steep decline from a year ago.

The county’s August rebate came out to $440,537, an increase of 16.43 percent from August of last year, when it collected $378,347.  So far this year, the county’s receipts total $3,219,626, up 13.65 percent when compared to the $2,832,912 received through August 2022.

Brenham received $934,973 in August, up 18.59 percent from its rebate of $788,404 last August.  At this point in 2023, the city’s rebates amount to $6,381,981, a 5.81 percent increase from the $6,031,147 it had received to date a year ago.

Burton’s rebate this month was down 60.26 percent, receiving $4,413 after bringing in $11,107 last August.  The city’s payments to date are still up by 5.92 percent over the year, as it has taken in $70,191 through 2023 in comparison to $66,266 through this time in 2022.

Comptroller Glenn Hegar reported a state payout of $1.2 billion in local sales tax allocations this month, up 2.8 percent from last August and up 6.8 percent for the year so far.
