An accused drug dealer will be spending the next 30 years in prison after being sentenced in Grimes County.

42-year-old Toney Ray Edwards Jr. pled guilty to a charge of Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance before 12th District Judge David Moorman.

The plea agreement was worked out with Assistant District Attorneys Tammy Thomas and David Armbruster.

According to the Grimes County District Attorney’s Office, Edwards was arrested following a traffic stop in Richards on May 3, 2022.

Sheriff’s Deputy Zackry Pavlock reported that he was told different stories by Edwards and his passenger.  He also observed them exhibiting signs of nervousness.

K-9 Officer Hank alerted Deputy Pavlock to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.

A probable cause search led to the discovery of 80 grams of methamphetamines, Xanex, marijuana, and various items commonly used in the sale of narcotics.

At the time of the arrest, Edwards had another charge pending in Brazos County for Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance that was from June 2021.

While out on bond, Edwards was involved in a traffic crash on March 27 of this year in Brazos County. During their investigation, authorities found methamphetamines in that vehicle as well.

He has also received previous prison sentences for Assault Family Violence with a Prior Conviction, Burglary of a Habitation, Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle, and Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Deliver.
