CITY OF NAVASOTA ASKING FOR VOLUNTARY WATER CONSERVATION

The City of Navasota is instituting stage 1 mild water shortage conditions under its water conservation and drought contingency plan.

Effective today (Wednesday), the city is asking residents and businesses to limit non-essential water use to alleviate the high demand on its systems caused by extreme heat and lack of rainfall.

To assist, customers should:

  • Reduce their watering or irrigation to no more than twice per week.
  • Change their irrigation schedule to outside of high-demand hours.
  • Reduce water usage inside the home/business.
  • Assess and repair any leaks that may cause unexpected water loss.
  • Reduce draining and refilling of swimming pools.
  • Refrain from establishing new landscaping until the drought has passed.
  • Cut down on water use for power washing.

Customers are asked to voluntarily limit their irrigation of landscapes to between the hours of midnight to 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. to midnight on designated watering days.  For even-numbered street addresses, irrigation should be on Sundays and Thursdays, while odd-numbered addresses should irrigate on Saturdays and Wednesdays.

The city says it may need to enact further water conservation measures if drought conditions continue.  It says it is also adhering to the stage 1 water use restrictions.
