BURTON SCHOOL BOARD PASSES BUDGET, TAX RATE

The Burton School Board unanimously adopted the new school year’s budget and tax rate after public hearings at its meeting Tuesday.

The approved budget totals $15,276,096 and is a balanced budget.

The new tax rate is $0.9380 per $100 valuation, consisting of $0.7380 for maintenance and operations and $0.20 for interest and sinking.  The rate is a decrease from last year’s rate of $1.0546 per $100.

Included in the budget are $1,000 pay raises for teachers and staff, along with a $1,000 bonus in December.

Also on Tuesday, the board approved budget amendments for the 2022-23 Fiscal Year.

After an executive session, trustees moved to honor district employee contracts that were signed this spring and the current $1,000 stipend for having a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) for 2023-24.  Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy explained that Burton ISD is scheduling a pay review with the Texas Association of School Boards for this school year to address employee contracts, salaries and stipends appropriately.
