BLINN MEN CRUSH LSC-TOMBALL IN SEASON OPENER

Nick Folk (Joe Alberico)

The Blinn College men's basketball team began its season with a bang Wednesday as the Buccaneers rolled past Lone Star College-Tomball 110-47 at the Kruse Center in Brenham, Texas.

Each of the Buccaneers' 15 players scored at least two points in the season-opening victory.

"I was very happy with how our guys played, and even happier that everybody got to play and had their hand in the win," Blinn head coach Scott Schumacher said. "We moved the ball, we guarded, we rebounded, and it was just a great job for my guys."

The Timberwolves grabbed a brief 8-5 lead, but that was all the fun Lone Star would have. The Bucs answered with a 12-0 run to move ahead and kept the surge going with a 52-16 explosion that sent them into halftime ahead 57-24.

That was virtually all she wrote as the Bucs won their season opener for the 10th time in the past 11 seasons.

"It was a good win, and everybody contributed, so that's always a good night," sophomore guard Nick Folk said. "We just need to keep this going, lock in every day at practice, and apply what we're learning and see where we can go from here."

Jaylin Payne (Joe Alberico)

Freshman guard Reese Miller had a team-high 13 points, freshman forward Jaylin Payne had 12, and Folk and sophomore guard Joey Ramirez finished with 10 points apiece. Freshman forward Anthony Isaac chipped in nine.

Up next, Blinn heads to the Elite 8 Shootout in Enid, Okla., where the Bucs will face Murray State College at 4 p.m. on Sunday, and Northern Oklahoma College-Enid at 2 p.m. on Monday.
