CHRISTMAS STROLL AND PARADE RECAP

Another Christmas Stroll Parade is in the books, and this one was the biggest yet.  Over 100 floats representing over 90 different organizations made their way through Downtown Brenham tonight (Saturday).

Large crowds lined the streets to get a look at the numerous decorative floats as they passed by to bring holiday cheer.

The parade was broadcast live on KWHI and KWHI.com.

Prior to the parade, they held the annual lighting on the Christmas Tree at the Washington County Courthouse.

On-lookers were also treated to Christmas Carols from local girl scouts.

Closing out the parade was Santa Claus himself.

After the parade, the children were allowed to meet Santa, and also go for rides on the 1950 Invader Fire Engine at the Brenham Fire Museum.

  1. “You can’t hurt Christmas, because it isn’t about the gifts or the contests or the fancy lights.” — Cindy Lou Who

  2. The parade was good .. except that we stayed till the very end to see Santa and he never made it that far. We were at the corner of Alamo and Market and NO SANTA!! We were told by one of the drivers that he got off at the courthouse two blocks before the parade route finished. There were a lot of disappointed kids within that 2 blocks… Maybe have Santa finish the parade next year?

  3. The parade was amazing my 3 year old granddaughter Layla has found a love for “candy parades” as she calls them, and I enjoy her excitement as I am an older excited kid at heart when it comes to the parades here in Brenham. The floats were awesome and we parked by Alan’s Automotive and walked all the way down to the end of the street in front of the rail road tracks. It was awesome to see so many people there and I had no idea there were 100 participants (that’s wonderful). We were very cheerful and my granddaughter filled a whole Christmas hat with goodies handed and thrown to her. Everyone did an amazing job, thanks for all the hard work that goes in to this, WE APPRECIATE YOU. I would love to see something organized for the senior citizens, maybe something like the fair shuttles would be nice. I think everyone is aware how the parking gets for parades and I just appreciate everyone understanding that we park where we can, safely, respectfully, and we don’t have to worry about being towed or have to pay for parking like in the big cities. Merry Christmas Everyone

  4. Too many Nativity floats?? Really, you said that? That’s terrible. Those were church and church school floats!! What would you expect?? “The reason for the season!” We sat at the end of the parade route and people were cheering and waving. I think that we get conditioned and begin to expect things. No element of surprise like first time. Don’t worry. Many many thought it was tremendous and are so proud just as we are!! Thank you to each float participant for your time, creativity, imagination, and expense. It is sooo appreciated. Carry on, but again, PLEASE do something about that parking problem.

    1. THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN ANYONE CAN DO ABOUT THE PARKING DOWNTOWN IS A SMALL TOWN AND A WONDERFUL TOWN. JUST BE PREPARED TO WALK WHEN THERE IS THAT MANY PEOPLE ATTENDING. THE PARADE WAS WONDERFUL AND SO HAPPY THERE WAS SO MANY PARTICIPATING IN THE PARADE AND PEOPLE WATCHING IT WAS GREAT

  5. The parade was magnificent BUT the parking was a terrible problem. We got to downtown 45 minutes early and parking was already a giant problem by then. If you are disabled, you are out of luck. Walking back to cars in pitch black when parade was over was very dangerous. People were slipping and tripping on uneven btoken surfaces. Please, parade organizers, Mr. Mayor and city of Brenham….. help out your senior citizens. Many grandparents attend with families. How about having people park in big parking lots around town and city pick them up in buses to transport them to downtown area?! Lawsuit potential if someone gets hit by a car or falls in dark areas!!

  6. After nearly two decades of going to the parade, I thought this year’s would be amazing with the number of floats. I might be the only one, but it just seemed blah this year. What was it missing?!?! Or what was I missing?

    1. It did seem less, of something. It might have been the crowd itself.
It seemed to me that not as many people were excited about the parade. Maybe not enough prizes thrown to the kids because of the cost of everything?
Maybe too many Nativity Themed Scenes, and not enough other style of floats?
Maybe it was just not cold enough, so people were not drinking as much, so it seemed blah. I wasn’t drinking this year, and it was a little blah.
More floats doesn’t mean a better Parade, BUT, I am sure greatful they all showed up.
      My kids loved it!
      Great Job!

      1. Are you kidding me? The parade was great. I did Have grand kids in it. But I wouldn’t have miss it if they weren’t.
The City of Brenham and parade organizer’s, you did a wonderful job. And to the participants, thanks for all your hard work. Parking is a problem. But that can’t be helped. Maybe a bus ride. But with all the traffic not sure that would work very well.

      2. J. D. – Really ???? You must have not been to the same parade we were at. Everyone has said what a wonderful parade this was . And too many Nativity Themes ??? Let’s see …… exactly what is the reason for the season ???

      3. It seemed overdone to me. Too much of the same, in my opinion. More than previous years. Yes, reason for Christmas, yes. It can still be too much.
It seemed like a lot of baby Jesus and the Grinch floats. I still enjoyed it, my kids still enjoyed it, just previous years have been better with less floats, in my opinion.
I understand that the volunteers can choose how they want to decorate their float, but maybe in the future there could be a way for the float folks to see who is going as what, so everyone isn’t wearing the same costume, so to speak. These are just oberservations, no need for anyone to get touchy about it. It will be okay. Love a parade anyway you can get one!

        1. I agree with you .. if it gets to be the same or seems to be too much of one idea or theme. Someone should take over and run it with limitations perhaps with thoughtful suggestions. Personally I love to see our school bands and organizations and would enjoy seeing veterans as well. Let’s get this idea going!!!

    2. Really?? I think what YOU are missing is found within your heart…and that won’t be fixed with beautiful floats, lighted vehicles, excited children, community spirit, hometown designs and joy depicting “the reason for the season”. How sad for you…
