WASHINGTON CO. APPRAISAL DISTRICT BOARD APPROVES BUSINESS PERSONAL PROPERTY APPRAISAL CONTRACT

The Washington County Appraisal District Board of Directors approved a contract on Tuesday for local business personal property appraisals.

The contract is with Capitol Appraisal Group for $20,000, and is for the 2024 appraisal year.

Chief Appraiser Dyann White said the appraisal district had an unexpected vacancy in the position of business personal property appraiser, and due to the lack of time or adequate funding, the district is choosing instead to contract out appraisals.

Also on Tuesday, the board approved a budget amendment to move $44,800 from contingency funds to pay for attorney costs, aerial imagery contract changes, cost of digitizing records and appraisal of business personal property.

Board members also held their second budget workshop to present the proposed 2024-25 budget of $1.68 million, which is an increase of $55,755 from the current adopted budget.  That amount comes from $38,000 in added personnel costs, $16,255 in extra professional and contracted services, and $1,500 in other additional operating costs.

A public hearing for the budget, followed by a vote for adoption, will take place on April 23rd.

During monthly reports, White said the appraisal district expects that 2024 appraisal notices for non-commercial property will be mailed in April.  Commercial properties, including oil and gas, will be mailed in May.
