WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO CONSIDER REVISED EMPLOYEE HANDBOOK

Washington County Commissioners will revisit talks on potential revisions to the county’s employee handbook when they meet Tuesday.

The item, which is listed for discussion and possible action, follows a workshop during the court’s meeting on March 19th where suggested changes to paid time off (PTO) drew criticism from county employees in attendance.

The changes involved taking sick time and vacation time, which are currently separated into different banks, and putting them into the same pool with a cap of 480 hours, which equals 12 40-hour work weeks.  Long-time employees said at the workshop that they would lose whatever time they had collected above 480 hours.

No action was taken, as it was decided the county would re-work the proposed amendments and bring them back at a later time.

In other business on Tuesday, the court will vote on a contract with DRG Architects for the jail kitchen remodel, to be funded through American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars.  Commissioners moved in February to begin negotiations with the architecture and design firm after ending negotiations with CGL Companies.

Also in session, commissioners will:

  • Act on several items in relation to the Chappell Hill Bluebonnet Festival, including a mass gathering permit, a right-of-way permit, and the closure of several streets from 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 13th through 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 14th.  The street closures will be Cedar Street (east) from FM 1155 to Church Street; Sycamore Street (west) from FM 1155 to FM 2447; and Poplar Street (east) from FM 1155 to Church Street.  Providence Street would allow for traffic flow in a one-way (north) direction as the access route.
  • Vote on going out for bids for an EMS chassis.  Bids will be due and opened on Thursday, April 25th at 10 a.m. and considered on Tuesday, April 30th at 9 a.m.
  • Read proclamations declaring the month of April as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, and declaring April 28 – May 5 as Texas Soil and Water Stewardship Week.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.
