MAGNOLIA WEST RALLIES IN 7TH TO DEFEAT CUBETTES 3-2

The Brenham Cubettes saw their playoff hopes dashed last (Tuesday) night as they lost to the Magnolia West Lady Mustangs 3-2.

The Cubettes got things start off on a good note with two runs in the top of the first inning. Avery Maurer drew a lead-off walk. Halle Scheel reached base on an error. They both moved up on a passed ball.

Sarah Mabie hit a ground ball that was fielded by the second baseman, she threw home, but Maurer beat out the throw to score the first run of the game, make it 1-0 Brenham. Kaylyn Rodriguez reached on fielder's choice as Scheel was out trying to come home.

Mabie advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on an RBI groundout by Annie Beckendorf to make it 2-0 Cubettes.

In the bottom of the first, Magnolia West's leadoff hitter, Hailey Toney, homered off Heidi Busker to cut the lead to 2-1.

The score remained the same until the bottom of 7th inning. Three walks, an error, and an RBI single led to Magnolia West rallying for two runs off of reliever Kylie Baker to get the walk-off win.

With the win, Magnolia West clinches the final playoff spot in District 21-5A, while the Cubettes are eliminated from playoff contention.

Brenham will wrap up the season this Friday night when they host College Station at Alumni Field. First pitch is at 6:30pm. KWHI will broadcast live beginning with the pregame at 6:05pm.
