RAIN PUSHES BLINN’S REGION XIV TOURNAMENT GAME BACK TO MONDAY

The Region XIV Tournament consolation matchup between Blinn College and Tyler Junior College has been moved to 2:30 p.m. on Monday in Houston.

Inclement weather postponed the postseason ballgame, which was originally slated for Sunday.

The Buccaneers (34-19-1) are facing elimination following a 6-2 tournament-opening loss to 10th-ranked Paris Junior College on Saturday.

Blinn will now need to win out to finish as the region tournament's runner-up and qualify for the NJCAA Division I Softball World Series.

Against Paris on Saturday, the Bucs fell into an early 5-0 hole and were unable to climb all the way back.

Run-scoring singles from sophomores Alayna Calvillo and Ripley Welker made it 5-2 in the top of the fifth, but the Dragons got one back in the home half of the frame to cap the offense.

Blinn out-hit Paris 10-7.

Calvillo, sophomore Erynne Castillo, and freshman Grace Bracken had two hits apiece.

In the pitcher's circle, sophomore Peyton Welker absorbed the loss after permitting five earned runs on four hits in three innings. She struck out five and walked two. Freshman Bella De Los Santos worked three innings of relief and gave up an earned run on three hits to go with four punchouts and a pair of walks.
