EIGHT WEEKEND CALLS FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT.

The Brenham Fire Department responded to eight calls over the weekend.

Six of those calls came on Saturday.  Just past 7 a.m. Saturday, firefighters responded to the 1900 block of Longwood Drive for a report of a fire alarm sounding.  They made location to find a large commercial structure with nothing showing from the exterior.  Upon entering, they found a busted pipe in the building.  Another busted pipe was found in the pump room.  Units stood by until an employee arrived and advised them to have their alarm company come out and fix the issues.

A few minutes shy of 8 a.m., the department received a report of an alarm at a home in the 1000 block of Briscoe Street.  Nothing was showing from the outside of the home, and the homeowner told firefighters there was no fire or smoke.  The homeowner reset the alarm, and the department returned to service.

At 8 a.m., BFD members were dispatched to a home in the 800 block of East Academy Street for a gas smell outside the home.  The fire department and City of Brenham Gas Department found a small gas leak at the meter.  The gas department stayed on location while the fire department returned to the station.

Shortly after 3:45 p.m. another gas smell report came in from a home in the 800 block of Bormann Street.  Firefighters and the gas department discovered a small gas leak around the meter, and the gas department released the fire department from the scene.

Around 4:30 p.m., units were called out to Highway 290 West and Prairie Lea Street for a transportation incident.  They arrived and found a two-vehicle accident with no fluids or injuries, so they stood by until the roadway was back open before returning to service.

Just before 6:30 p.m., the Brenham Fire Department and Meyersville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the 1100 block of Allen Road for a grass fire.  They made location to find four small grass fires burning.  Both departments extinguished the fires.

On Sunday, around 10:45 a.m., BFD personnel received a report of a gas odor outside a home in the 1100 block of Pecan Street.  The fire department and gas department discovered a small gas leak around the meter.  The gas department stayed at the scene, while firefighters cleared the call.

Approaching 11:45 a.m., Brenham firefighters and the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department were called for a grass fire in the 2800 block of South Berlin Road.  Brenham units arrived and found a small grass fire.  Berlin volunteers then made location and helped the Brenham department put out the fire.  The Berlin department remained on location while the Brenham department returned to service.

  1. For such a small city Brenham has an excessive amount of gas leaks. Something’s very wrong!!

    1. Not really an excessive amount of gas leaks, there’s just nothing else going on so when the fire department goes out on anything it makes the news.
