Through a collaboration between Brenham High School Art Instructor Savannah Nichols and District Attorney Derek Estep, the DA’s office is now home to a rotating display of student-created pieces.  The artwork, chosen by the students and instructors, will be regularly updated to highlight a variety of styles and themes.  The partnership will bring color and creativity into a space that often serves crime victims, including children.

Nichols says the project “gives students’ art a greater purpose”, helping to inspire or bring comfort to another child.  Brenham ISD Chief Communications and Engagement Officer Brooke Trahan says, “This collaboration is a perfect example of how our local community can come together to support our students in meaningful ways.”

Currently, over a dozen pieces featuring animals, landscapes, abstracts and portraits are on display.

Estep said the motivation behind the project was to create a more welcoming environment for those who come into the DA’s office, making it a “softer and friendlier” space.  He added, “For the students, the opportunity is more than just a chance to display their work—it’s a chance to make an impact.”
