CUBS BEAT MONTGOMERY 9-2 TO GAIN SERIES SPLIT

After a suffering a tough loss on Tuesday, the Brenham Cub Baseball Team bounced back with a 9-2 win over the Montgomery Bears last (Friday) night.

Dawson Keim put in another gritty performance by going all seven innings allowing four hits, two earned runs, two walks, and striking out four. He also improved his record to 7-1 on the season.

Montgomery scored the first run of the game in bottom of the second inning, and held a 1-0 lead until the top of the fifth inning.

Barrett Kohring started off the rally by legging out a double, and then Evan Curtis drew a walk. Dalton Hart followed with a two-run single to put the Cubs in front. Two batters later, Drake Bentke drove in Hart with an RBI single to make it 3-1 Cubs.

Brenham would tack on four more runs in the sixth inning. Cannon Credeur led it off with a single, and Kohring walked. Grady Gee was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Hart singled in Credeur, and Brody Tucker drew a bases loaded walk to score Kohring to give Brenham a 5-1 lead. Bentke, then grounded into a fielder's choice, which led to Gee and Hart scored to push the advantage to 7-1.

Montgomery got one of the runs back in the 6th inning to cut the lead to 7-2.

The Cubs added two more runs in the top of the 7th inning when pinch runner Ethan Aschenbeck scored on a wild pitch and Hart added his third RBI single of the night scoring Kohring, who had reached earlier in the frame after getting hit by a pitch.

With the win, Brenham is now 15-10-1 on the season, and 6-4 in district. The Cubs are now on a bye week. They will stay busy with a non-district game against Cy Woods this (Saturday) afternoon at 2pm. KWHI will have live coverage beginning with the pregame at 1:35pm.
