WASHINGTON CO. STARTING 40TH YEAR IN INDIGENT HEALTH CARE PROGRAM

Today (Monday) marks the start of Washington County’s 40th year under the Texas Indigent Health Care and Treatment Act.

The act defines who is indigent, identifies medical services available for eligible recipients and assigns responsibility for the indigent health care.

Washington County is complying through the County Indigent Health Care (CIHC) Program as outlined in the CIHC handbook established by the Texas Department of Health.  It is administered by the Brazos Valley Council of Governments (BVCOG), who oversees the program with the limits established by the county.

Applicants must be residents of the county where they make their application, with the intent to stay.  Applications must be completely filled out and contain the information needed to verify and document residency, income, resources and family size.  Some assistance is available for completing the applications.

The net income of applicants cannot exceed 21 percent of federal poverty guidelines.  Other factors, such as household size, may apply.  Resources for a family of one cannot exceed $2,000 after exemptions, while resources for a family of two cannot be more than $3,000 after exemptions.

Providers are reimbursed for eligible services according to average Medicaid payment.  Clients must use approved physicians.

For more information on the program, or to access applications, go online to www.bvcog.org or call 979-595-2800.
